-Domestic Reimaginary Summer 2021
Architecture / Adaptive Reuse /Reuse/ Urban Planning/Interior
Reuse platform is concerned with the exploration and adaptation of matter that can be considered, outdated, redundant or obsolete. This year, Interior Reuse is asking its participants to speculate on the futures of the home.
Home is a universal theme. It describes a place, often a collection of rooms, which encapsulate all forms of human relations and behaviours. It also is the space that personifies experimentation in how we live, speculations on finance, ownership and the asset: the commodifying of privacy. The home is the site for improvement, maintenance, regulatory governance and standards. And of course, in current times, it is the place where we all now undertake work. In essence, the home has always been the most public of private spaces.
I was asked to reconsider what home means in 21th century. I will approach this through imagining the what will happens and how the space will be inhabited in the home of future , some fragments are real and some are imaginary. They will be assembled together within the site.
Phase one : domestic imaginary, which explores the images of home, and through an analysis of paintings, images, select projects, I will synthesis the constant elements that make up a home. While I was imagining domestic life in London , I realized that I was particularly interested in openings. So I focused more on the architectural element thresholds, those doors, window, hallways ,corridors are my Impressions for the the domestic spaces in London, they could take me to another place, to my childhood memories, and could just as well be in my first house in my memory as here.
Phase two: My definition of home of future. I found that every single piece of“thing”had its own purpose and centrality to the rituals of everyday life , which made it a vessel for containing emotions. The home is one of the last repositories of a language symbol and memory. Therefore, I collaged these pieces of furniture to further define that the home belongs to memories, possessions, and internal connection. And cupboards are one of the invisible containers to hold all the variety of objects and hidden memories. Home is protective shelter that consisted of all kinds of containers, including both the personal belongings or traveling memories of the world.
One day my friend who had gone back to China asked whether she could leave her stuff in my home for half year due to the extremely expensive storage fees in London. She was very pleased to share all her possessions including guitar, painting kits, green plant, books of Charles Dickens and so on.
Thus, I wonder is there any alternative way for those nomad groups?
Can memory de deposited?
